Another gem of an article. So much of the writing on Medium is "cursing the darkness;" you continuously "light the candle."

We need to protest unfairness and injustice in our system - it's the moral thing to do. But we must not, however, expect that anyone in power will solve the fundamental problems of our society. Those in power (just like everyone else) are self-interested and will play whatever game we are in to their best advantage. Should we despair? No, there is hope - it's not easy - but you can win.

Ruthlessly take care of yourself and your family by avoiding pitfalls of over-consumption and debt. At the same time work for societal change - I believe the free-capitalist-with-generous-safety-net model of Scandinavia is where we need to be: affordable education, universal healthcare, etc. - this is humane and makes economic sense in the long run.
